Some partnerships stand the passage of time. Even when the individuals find new partners, the public consciousness always associates them with their first big love. And so it is with Sonny and Cher Bono. They met in a Los Angeles coffee shop in 1962 when Cher was just sixteen. They became friends, then lovers, then man and wife. Five years after their wedding, the couple had their only child, Chastity Bono. They recorded hits like "I Got You Babe" and had a successful variety show called "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" from 1971 to 1977. They remained friends after their divorce until Sonny`s tragic death in a 1998 skiing accident. Cher`s hit song "Believe" is about Sonny.
