Schiffer and Copperfield first met in February 1993 at one of Copperfield`s stage shows in Berlin, where he invited her on stage to take part in his `Flying` illusion. Shortly after this, they appeared on the same German TV show. At the end of the show, Copperfield and the show`s host sawed Schiffer in half and, while she was still in two pieces, Copperfield asked her out on a date. Three months later, they announced their engagement. When not otherwise occupied with her modelling work, Schiffer often joined Copperfield in his stage shows as a special guest assistant. During the show, she would be levitated high into the air, made to vanish and re-appear, beheaded by a guillotine, and finally sawed in half.
