Dolley Madison (formerly Dolley Payne Todd) lost her first husband in the 1793 Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia. About a year later in 1794, James` friend Aaron Burr introduced the two to one another, and they were married shortly thereafter. She was 26 and he was 43. Dolley had children from her previous marriage, but the two had no children of their own. They lived together at James` family estate, Montpelier, where Dolley was known for her love of throwing parties and entertaining guests. The two were together until James` death in 1836 at the age of 85.
