They had met in 1992, as each was getting an ankle taped in an athletic training room at the University of Southern California. In the summer of 1998, the Sehorns were a post-practice fixture at Giants camp. Each tall, lithe and athletic -- she had been a volleyball player -- they appeared at ease walking in the sun of the SUNY-Albany campus.
They would stroll back to the entrance of the Giants` locker room, she sometimes holding his helmet. On the steps outside the building, Whitney would wait for Jason. Then the couple would usually head to dinner, frequently with Sehorn`s roommate and best friend, quarterback Danny Kanell.
``The person I spent seven years with, who I loved and married and expected to spend the rest of my life with is gone,`` Sehorn said, standing in the bright sun outside the Giants` locker room. ``I still love her to death, respect her and support her, but it`s devastating.

Concerning that rumor, which has circulated throughout the pro football community, Sehorn said today: ``I almost went through the roof when I heard that. Danny and Whitney, that`s why we broke up? Oh my gosh, are you kidding me?``
Though Sehorn laughs off the rumors as ridiculous, they have made a complex situation even more troubling for him. And for Kanell, who is now with the Falcons. ``It`s just crazy what people are going to say,`` Kanell said in a telephone interview tonight from his Atlanta-area home. ``I feel bad for Jason. We just want it to go away and let us move on with our careers.``
