There’s a little sexism going on here. When Ryan cheated on her then husband Dennis Quaid with Crowe, she was painted as the scarlet lady. Their romance didn’t last and we started to question all her cutesy, girl next door characters. She wasn’t quite the lollipop we all thought she was, whereas Crowe came out of the liaison without a blip on his albeit already stained character.
