Natalie was 18 and RJ was 27 when they began dating in June 1957. They married within the year, but split four years laters when Natalie found him "in a compromising position with another man," according to biographer Suzanne Finstad.
They began dating again in February 1972, and married that year on July 16. In 1974 they had their only child, Courtney.
On November 29, 1981, a jealous and drunken Wagner pushed Natalie off their yacht into the ocean where she drowned because he believed she was having an affair with her Brainstorm co-star Christopher Walken. This was documented in the book "Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendor," written by Dennis Davern, who was the skipper on the yacht the night Natalie drowned.
