Alexandra Mary Hedison (born July 10, 1969 in Los Angeles, California) is an American photographer, actress and director. Hedison was born in 1969, the daughter of actor David Hedison and actress Bridget Hedison and the sister of Serena Rose Hedison. Hedison was the partner of comedian Ellen DeGeneres from 2001 until 2004. Hedison`s 2008 exhibit, "Ithaka" aims to display the continuous growth and regrowth of trees, and the forest in which they create and surround. Five by six and a half foot prints "place trees immediately before you, and in their colors and range, from rain-fresh ferns to black-green moss,"[3] inviting the comparison of Odysseus` journey to Ithaca, and the complications and unexpected occurrences that build and happen in the forest. The realization for Hedison that human life is full of limits and forests grow and evolve one generation after the other was the fundamental theme that shaped the project. In a 2008 interview in The New Yorker, Hedison compared the "constant,rain-watered regeneration of the forest," to the "finite presence of life." The name of the exhibition was inspired from a poem by C.P. Cavafy, of the same title.
