Belinda announced her resignation as President and CEO of Magna on January 20, 2004 to seek election to represent the riding of Newmarket-Aurora and coincidentally run for the leadership of the new Conservative Party of Canada (the amalgamation of the Reform and Progressive Conservative parties.
