Darren Mallory Sharper (born November 3, 1975, in Richmond, Virginia) is an American football strong safety who plays for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. He was selected for the 2006 Pro Bowl, after coming second in the league in interceptions for that season. Sharper graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1997, where he played with future Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin. Prior to 2005, he played for the Green Bay Packers. Darren is the younger brother of free agent linebacker Jamie Sharper. Sharper is also noted for his liberal political interests; in 2004 he endorsed John Kerry for President. During the Vikings` Novermber 11, 2006 losing game against the Miami Dolphins, Sharper bumped a member of the officiating crew, but he was not immediately penalized. Later the following week the NFL announced that it would be fining him $10,000 for the infraction.
He holds the Green Bay records for interceptions returned for touchdowns in a career (seven, record tied with Herb Adderley). Except that he only returned five for the Packers, then two for the Vikings. Sharper has a daughter. Although he is known for his high total of career interceptions, Sharper has also been labeled inconsistent in coverage and has struggled with giving up big plays in his career. On September 16, 2007, Sharper recorded his 50th career interception when he picked-off J.T. O`Sullivan while playing against the Detroit Lions. |

I always try to play the same style of game no matter who I`m going up against. The good thing is you`re playing in a bad division. The bad thing is you are in the worst division in the NFL and you`re at the bottom of that division. But you still have 11 games to go. There`s still a chance to do some good things. The whole season was emotionally trying. We went through so many ups and downs, on such a roller coaster. It was a season that had a lot of scenarios, good things and bad things. But the end result is we had a winning record, and that`s a positive. It will be like playing ones vs. ones in training camp. The only thing is if I get to blitz I finally get to hit him. He won`t be wearing that red jersey. I can`t answer that. There were times when to his credit he wanted to play and I wouldn`t play him because of the injury. And then (it) finally got to the point where we ended up playing him. But we never put anybody on the field with the idea that they could hurt themselves in future games or years and that wasn`t the case last year. But to his credit, he was chomping at the bit to play and we ended up playing him. The good thing is you`re playing in a bad division, ...
