Darren Sharper Biography
Darren Mallory Sharper (born November 3, 1975, in Richmond, Virginia) is an American football strong safety who plays for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. He was selected for the 2006 Pro Bowl, after coming second in the league in interceptions for that season. Sharper graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1997, where he played with future Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin. Prior to 2005, he played for the Green Bay Packers. Darren is the younger brother of free agent linebacker Jamie Sharper. Sharper is also noted for his liberal political interests; in 2004 he endorsed John Kerry for President. During the Vikings` Novermber 11, 2006 losing game against the Miami Dolphins, Sharper bumped a member of the officiating crew, but he was not immediately penalized. Later the following week the NFL announced that it would be fining him $10,000 for the infraction.

He holds the Green Bay records for interceptions returned for touchdowns in a career (seven, record tied with Herb Adderley). Except that he only returned five for the Packers, then two for the Vikings. Sharper has a daughter.

Although he is known for his high total of career interceptions, Sharper has also been labeled inconsistent in coverage and has struggled with giving up big plays in his career. On September 16, 2007, Sharper recorded his 50th career interception when he picked-off J.T. O`Sullivan while playing against the Detroit Lions.
