Heir apparent to the House of Savoy, former ruling family of Italy that was abolished and exiled from Italy at the fall of World War II. It was written into the Italian Constitution that no male heir to the thrown be permitted within Italy. This was amended in November of 2002, at which time Emanuele was able to set foot on Italian soil for the first time.
