Erin Burnett Biography

Erin Isabelle Burnett is a business news anchor, reporter and interviewer for CNBC television. She is the co-anchor of CNBC`s Squawk on the Street program, weekdays from 9-11am EST. She and co-host Mark Haines broadcast from a set overlooking the New York Stock Exchange. In addition to Squawk on the Street, she is the host of CNBC`s Street Signs program from 2-3pm EST. She also appears on NBC`s Meet the Press, Today and the The News with Brian Williams.

Burnett was born and raised in Mardela, Maryland, which is on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She attended St. Andrew`s School in Middletown, Delaware, graduating in 1994; her yearbook predicted that "in 20 years..." she would be a "talk show host". Burnett later attended Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, the same college her two older sisters had attended. While at Williams College, she studied political science and economics and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy. As an undergrad, she also excelled in both varsity lacrosse and field hockey, where she earned second-team all conference honors.

Burnett began her career in 1998 as an analyst for Goldman Sachs in their investment banking division, where she worked on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. While working as an investment-banking analyst, Burnett was offered a position at CNN as a writer and booker for CNN`s Moneyline with Stuart Varney, Willow Bay, and Lou Dobbs.

From CNN, she moved to Citigroup, where she served as Vice President for Citigroup/CitiMedia, and was responsible for all anchoring of the Citigroup online financial news network. Burnett accepted a position in 2003 with Bloomberg Television, where she was the anchor of Bloomberg on the Markets, covering the stock market open and newsmaker interviews, and In Focus, where she broke down the day`s top business story. Burnett is currently the host of CNBC`s Street Signs and co-anchor of Squawk on the Street. Since making her debut on Squawk in December 2005, the program`s ratings are up 142% over first quarter 2006 in adults 25-54; while Street Signs is up 57% in the same demographic.

What month is her birthday? Several of her autobio says different month. There`s March,May and July. What is so wrong with telling your birth month? Unlesss you don`t like horoscopes describing your personality which is the most likely reason.

Erin may have had a few doors opened with Daddy`s money, but she has done well with her brains and good sense. She is thoughtful and decent and well worth watching.

Erin is one of the brightest people on CNBC. She asked very crisp and meaningful questions. She is very sharp. I also love how she relates to Cramer.

I wonder if such an intellectual beauty could have a life outside of her career. What would you talk about after the closing bell?

Sounds like the Female Glen Beck is envious and critical. Love to see her in a Field Hockey match with Erin! She would get her butt kicked! Family money usually ruins kids. Erin`s parents did a GREAT job!

People need to stop obsessing over Erin Burnett! The lady has bought her way to the top with daddy’s money. Think about it; is she a farm girl from Maryland? Not if daddy can afford to send three daughters to St. Andrews and Williams College! Further more when I hear her say that the top three Wall Street bankers are “doing gods work” (her words used on Street Signs Friday December 18, 2009) it makes me think how out of touch this spoiled rotten globetrotter really is. We need the members of our media to use their education to help the USA get work back into our country and not run off to another country to report on a story that does not exist just to add another notch in their map of travel and who knows what.

I concur in all the comments above regarding her looks, guts, brains, and integrity, and that she is an excellent model for my 20-year-old daugther. In fact, I think she should consider political life. She is so smart, yet so decent, that I don`t think she would let either celebrity or power undermine her fine character. We need polticians of her quality.

One of the most refreshing, not overly made-up,TV personalities. She has paid her dues and still has her integrity intact. What a great role model for aspiring young women. Her critics are either envious, jealous or both. Congrats to Erin and the parents who raised her!!!!
