Georgia Carroll was an actress, fashion model, and is best known as the singer in Kay Kyser`s band. Carroll started her acting career at MGM playing bit parts in movies like "Ziegfeld Girl" and "Maisie was a Lady." Most of her acting roles were small and uncredited. In 1943, Georgia replaced Ginny Simms as the feature singer for Kay Kyser`s Kollege of Knowledge, who had left to start her own radio show and solo singing career. She was capitalized on her beauty and was nicknamed "Gorgeous Georgia Carroll." She appeared with the band in their films, and the band made it`s first appearance in Techicolor when the band was featured in the finale song in "Thousands Cheer." Kyser and Carroll married in 1944, and Carroll retired from her career in 1946 when she became pregnant with their first child. The couple had three children and remained married until Kyser`s death in 1985. Carroll now is retired and lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and has donated a great deal of Kay Kyser memorbilla and achieves to the Univeristy of North Carolina, which was Kyser`s alma mater.
