Mantegna was born in New York, New York, and raised in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Arlene (née Vrhel), who owns a restaurant "Taste Chicago" in Burbank, California, and actor Joe Mantegna.[1] While growing up she was a trained gymnast and ballerina. Gia attended high school in North Hollywood, California.

She plays piano,saxophone and is a skilled singer. Gia is of Italian and Czechoslovakian descent. She is said to be close friends with actor Wilmer Valderrama.Gia is Joe Mantegna`s daughter.
