Jamie Darryl O`Hara (born 25 September 1986 in Dartford) is an English footballer who plays in the central midfield position for Tottenham Hotspur. He has also played at left back and left midfield.
As a schoolboy, he trained with the Arsenal academy before moving to Tottenham Hotspur`s academy in 2003.[1]
On 13 January 2006 it was announced he had joined Chesterfield F.C. on a three month loan agreement. His league debut came on 14 January 2006 at Doncaster Rovers in a 1-1 draw. He scored five goals during his loan spell.[2]
In 2004-05 he featured in every game in the FA Youth Cup, scoring once against Everton F.C. from a free kick in addition to playing in 14 U18 matches and 18 reserve matches.
On 24 August 2007, he joined Millwall F.C. on a month-long loan deal which was subsequently extended.[3][4] O`Hara subsequently returned to Spurs and made his debut as a substitute against Portsmouth on 15 December 2007 and his full debut against former club Arsenal on 22 December 2007.
Jamie scored his first Tottenham goal on 21 February 2008 in the UEFA Cup competition against Slavia Prague at White Hart Lane,[5] and his first league goal on 22 March 2008 against Portsmouth.[6] He signed a new 3-year deal to keep him at Tottenham until 2011 at the end of the 2007-08 season.[7]
Jamie scored his first goal for Tottenham in the 2008/09 season against Newcastle United in the 4th round of the Carling Cup, which Tottenham won 2-1 after team mate Roman Pavlyuchenko scored his first goal for the club. On the 27th of November 2008, O`Hara scored the only goal in a UEFA Cup game away to NEC Nijmegen of Holland, to all but ensure Spurs would get past the group stages of the competition for the third successive season.
In the Carling Cup semi-final first leg versus Burnley, O`Hara replaced David Bentley at half-time with Spurs trailing 1-0. Within 90 seconds he set up a Michael Dawson headed goal with a corner, then scored himself with a volley under the keeper. He added to this with a free-kick that was inadvertently deflected into the goal by a Burnley defender. Spurs won the game 4-1.[8]
He also stepped up to take the first penalty kick in the Carling Cup Final against Manchester United, after the match finished 0-0 after extra time, but his effort was saved by Ben Foster. Spurs eventually lost the shootout 4-1 after David Bentley blasted the third penalty wide. The second penalty was scored by Vedran Corluka. O`Hara was visibly distraught on the pitch at contributing to Tottenham`s defeat, but within minutes of the trophy presentation messages of support from fans for Jamie appeared on Tottenham Hotspur online message boards, solidifying his place as a fan favourite of Tottenham.
[edit] International career
Jamie was called up to the England U21 squad for their game against Ireland on the 5 February 2008, but did not take the field.[9] He did gain his first U21 cap on 25 March 2008 in a 0-0 friendly against Poland. [10] He gained another cap on the 15 May 2008, coming on as a second-half substitute in the fifty-seventh minute, in a 2-0 victory over Wales, a match in which Theo Walcott and Spurs team-mate Tom Huddlestone scored.
