Born into a show business family, Joey Travolta began a singing career in 1978 as a recording artist on Casablanca Records. In 1979 he made his acting debut starring in the feature film “Sunnyside” for Filmways Productions. After several development deals as a writer/producer for Paramount and Universal, Mr. Travolta decided to go the independent film route. In 1989, he wrote and directed “Diva Las Vegas”, the winner of the Italian Funny Film Festival. In 1991, he produced and stared in “Divinci`s War” with James Russo and Michael Nouri. He later produced and starred in the sequel, “To The Limit”.
In 1994, Travolta made directing his priority. He directed the action thrillers: “Hard Vice”, starring Shannon Tweed and “Navajo Blues”, starring Steven Bauer and Irene Badard, in 1995. He also directed several episodic television shows including: the police drama “L.A. Heat”, the TV pilot, “Friday Night After the Movies”, and “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” for Disney Television.
In 1996, Travolta directed the science fiction comedy, “Earth Minus Zero”, starring Pat Morita and Marcia Straussman for Two Sticks Productions. In 1997 he directed and produced “Laws of Deception”, a thriller starring C. Thomas Howell, James Russo and Brian Austin Green, “Matter of Trust”, starring Joan Severance and Nick Mancuso, and “Detour”, and action/drama starring Michael Madsen, Gary Busy and Jeff Fahey for October Films.
In 1998, Travolta directed and produced “Mel”, a family adventure movie starring Earnest Borgnine, Julie Haggerty and Jack Scalia. Mr. Travolta than took a break from directing to co-star in the Warner Brothers sitcom “Movie Stars” for two seasons. In 1999 he directed “Partners”, a comedy starring Casper Van Dien for First Look Pictures. In 2000 Mr. Travolta directed the critically acclaimed “Enemies of Laughter”, a comedy starring David Paymer, Peter Falk and Judge Reinhold. “Enemies of Laughter” received nominations in the Boston and Fort Lauderdale Film Festivals and is set to open the 2002 New York Independent Film Festival. In 2001 Mr. Travolta directed and produced “The House Next Door”, starring Sean Young and Theresa Russell.
In 2002 Joey directed “Waitin` to Live” starring Lee Majors, Alison Eastwood and Margaret Avery. In the summer of 2003 Joey directed, “Arizona Summer” starring Greg Evigan, Hoku, Morgan Fairchild, and Lee Majors.
Travolta is currently the owner of Joey Travolta`s Entertainment Experience, an acting/producing school in Tarzana, California and is directing films for his company Travolta Family Films.
