June Carter Cash is best known as Johnny Cash`s long-time love though she was no stranger to the music business or musicians before he came around. At age 10 she was performing to large audiences along-side her musical Christian family. Her 20`s were spent touring with musicians such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Hank Williams, and a mysterious man in black named Johnny Cash, just to name a few. At 22, June married fellow country musician Carl Smith (whom she often duet with), and had one child, Carlene Carter in 1955 before divorcing in 1957. Her second marriage to Police Officer and Race Car Driver Edwin Nix ended similar, divorcing after 7 years and another child, Rosie Nix Adams. June then went back to touring with a persistent Cash. It is said that Cash pursued June since the day they met, though nothing ever came out of it (except heartbreak and some amazing songs from Cash) as they were both married. It wasn`t until 1968, 18 years since they had first met, that Cash proposed to June live on-stage in Ontario that she finally accepted. They married later that year and had one child together, John Carter Cash and remained together until Junes death in 2003. A heartbroken Cash departed 4 months later. June was not only a musician (she could sing, play the guitar, banjo, harmonica, and autoharp) she was a songwriter (She wrote what was possibly Cash`s biggest hit "Ring Of Fire"), an actress (She studied with Lee Strasberg and Elia Kazan), a comedian, a mother (all 3 of her children have found success in the country music business), and a muse to one of the greatest musicians of all time.
