Although a success in her own right, as a actress/singer, with memorable appearances in the 1973 film American Graffiti and the late `70s sitcom "One Day at a Time." As well as, unfortunately, a reputation as a infamous young star with substance abuse (beginning way early on with trying pot at age 11). Mackenzie had her share of time as a `celeb hanger on` as an L.A. teen. Proclaiming herself a `glitter kid` of the early `70s, with memories of running up and down Sunset Strip along with the popular baby groupies (like Sable and Queenie) and chopping their hair `trying to look like mental patients` to be apart of the attention the Strip was notorious for in that period. Born the daughter of Mamas & Papas spokesperson John Phillips and named after `60s pop singer Scott McKenzie, Mackenzie grew up in Bel Air constantly surrounded by some of the `60s and `70s most legendary names. Some of the house visitors including Neil Diamond, John Sebastian, and Tommy James. By the time she turned 18 in 1977, Mackenzie was `aggressively seduced` by Stone Mick Jagger (then 34). Apparently stating `I`ve wanted to do this since you were 10 years old.` Mackenzie`s half sisters include Chynna Phillips (of the `90s girl trio Wilson-Phillips) and model/actress/wild child Bijou Phillips (also ex-girlfriend of Sean Lennon); and Mackenzie took her stepmother Michelle`s place when the Mamas & Papas re-united shortly in the `80s and `90s.
