|
Born in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of a successful lawyer, Dees embarked on her career in summer stock, followed by the back row of a New York chorus line. But by 1933 she had installed herself at the Garden of Allah hotel complex in Hollywood, owned by the silent movie star Nazimova.
Dees, often cast as the ingénue, worked in a plethora of MGM pictures including The Last Gangster (1937) with James Stewart - in which she played a gangster`s moll - and George Cukor`s The Women (1939), in which she was a showy model. |

Retired in 1985. Moved to South Florida in 1960. Dees finally quit the movies in 1946 after the Marx Brothers` A Night In Casablanca. She was a long-term date of boxer Jack Dempsey and reputedly dated mobster Johnny Roselli. Dees had been Jean Harlow`s stand-in in two movies before being hired as a double for Harlow in Saratoga (1937). She had a higher-pitched voice than Harlow, so a second double was hired to do the voice of the character. | ||
