Pamela Courson Biography

Pamela Susan Courson was born December 22, 1946 in Weed California.
Though it is not clear when she first met Jim, one biography states that they met at Gazzari`s nightclub on the Sunset Strip in 1965, while Pam was an art student at Los Angeles City College. She was 19. In his 1998 memoir Light My Fire: My Life with the Doors, former keyboardist Ray Manzarek stated that Pam and a friend saw the band during their stint at the London Fog, a lesser-known nightclub, and that she was initially courted by Arthur Lee of the Californian band "Love", who brought "The Doors" to the attention of Elektra boss Jack Holzman.

In any event, Jim called Pam his "cosmic mate" and dedicated his self-published books of poetry to her, as well as songs such as "Love Street".
Allthough they were deeply in love, heir relationship was tumultuous and they also fought and abused each other. She was the one and only woman who could and would stand up to Jim, for she could dish it out to him as well as he could to her. They both had flings on the side with other people but still they came back to each other in the end. Allthough they never married, Pam took the name Morrison later on in their relationship.
Jim even married another girlfriend, Patricia Kennealy, at an unofficial Wiccan wedding in 1970. In an interview for the book Rock Wives, Kennealy said of Courson: "I really did like her. She was nice. She wasn`t an incredibly towering intellect, but she seemed very sweet and very pretty, very California."

Pam had no job or career of her own while she was with Jim, other than a brief attempt at running Themis, a fashion boutique that Morrison bought for her.

On July 2, 1971 Jim and Pam went to see a movie. After the movie, they returned to their apartment in Paris. Jim went to bed and awoke sometime later coughing and complaining of chest pains. He then decided to take a bath. At approximately 5:00 a.m. on July 3, 1971, Pam found Jim dead in their bathroom.
He was twenty-seven years of age. The official coroner`s report listed his cause of death as heart failure. However, despite Jim being young and of apparent good health, and the presence of blood in the water, no autopsy was performed, and questions persist over the actual cause of death.
Per the stipulation in his will, which stated that he was "an unmarried person", Courson inherited his entire fortune, yet lawsuits against the estate would tie up her quest for inheritance for the next two years. After Pamela received her share of Morrison`s royalties, she never renewed contact with the remaining Doors members. She did not have long to enjoy the inheritance.

After Jim`s death, Pam became a recluse, using heroin and showing signs of mental instability.
On April 25, 1974, Pam died of a heroin overdose at the Los Angeles apartment she shared with two male friends. She was twenty-seven, the same age at which Jim Morrison died. Her parents intended that she be buried next to Morrison at Pere-Lachaise cemetery in Paris, and listed this location as the place of burial on her death certificate, but due to legal complications with transporting the body to France, her parents had her remains buried at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, California, under the name "Pamela Susan Morrison". After her death, her parents Columbus and Penny inherited Morrison`s entire fortune, but their executor ship of the estate was later contested by Morrison`s parents, George and Clara

On a recormding made at Pam`s apartment by a Rolling Stone journalist, available on You Tube, Jim orders alchohol in the background, and potato chips delivered by a local liqour store. He has to ask Pam if they take his credit card and what the street address is, for the delivery guy ! He WASN T living with her. Period. He found his way to her apartment via her to meet the journalist. This is explosive information for the Morrison Family. See You Tube for that interview. Pam can be heard talking to the interviewer in the background about Jim`s poetry, but the guy doesn`t even know her street address.

Pamela was the one and only for Jim. I don`t think that he would still be alive if she hadn`t introduced him to heroin. He pressed 70 years into 27, it was his time to go. Although it makes me so sad that I never had the opportunity to see him live...
