McCoy grew up in Florence, Mississippi, until December of 1981 when his family moved to Slidell, Louisiana. While in 5th grade, they moved to Mandeville, Louisiana, where he stayed for the rest of his education and where his parents still live. He was signed to Wind-Up Records less than 15 months after his senior year at Fontainebleau High School.
Musical background
McCoy has never had any formal musical training. His dad bought him his first electric guitar from a shop in Jackson, Mississippi for Christmas when he was 12 years old.
He was featured in the Evanescence hit "Bring Me to Life" after telling Diana and Alan Meltzer (owners of Wind-up) that "If you cannot find anyone famous give me a call".
Personal life
McCoy is married and has a daughter named Ryleigh.
