His wife, Jamie Elvidge, was featured in the 1996 documentary Biker Women (1996) (TV). She works as a motorcycle journalist. Both she and Perry are avid motorcyclists.

By way of his grandfather, literary editor Maxwell Perkins, he descends from Senator Wm. Evarts, Roger Sherman, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and through Roger Sherman`s grandfather, Roger Wellington, he descends from Edward I, King of England.

Graduated from Yale University with a degree in theatre, and then attended Julliard School, where he studied acting with John Houseman.

Perry King is from Alliance, Ohio, which is home to Mount Union College. There is an on-campus house named after him, King House, in which some students reside.
