Earthy, gruff-voiced New York-born Italian-American character player who started on the 60s New York stage ("Wait Until Dark") and played a sturdy series of ethnic roles, from gangsters to restaurant owners, on film and TV. Best known as the volatile, head-slapping papa Frank Manero Sr., who messes up son John Travolta`s hair during a heated dinner scene in Saturday Night Fever (1977).
