Joel Ryan Reuben Madden (born March 11, 1979) is the lead vocalist for the band Good Charlotte and identical twin brother of guitarist Benji Madden who is 5 minutes older than Joel.

Joel Ryan Reuben Madden was born in Waldorf, Maryland. He attended La Plata High School in La Plata, Maryland. Madden has an older brother named Joshua, who is a DJ, and a younger sister named Sarah. He also has a twin brother named Benji who plays guitar in Good Charlotte with him. During their teens Joel and Benji legally changed their surname from their father`s "Coombs" to their mother`s maiden name "Madden". They also now live on the same street in Glendale, California.

Good Charlotte was formed around 1996. In 2000, the group released their first self titled album "Good Charlotte". This was followed up in 2002 by "The Young and the Hopeless", which sold many more copies. Their next album "The Chronicles of Life and Death" wasn`t as commercially successful. Their next album, "Good Morning Revival", was released on March 27, 2007 and includes the single "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" , "The River" featuring M. Shadows and Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold, and "Dance Floor Anthem", their newest release from Good Morning Revival. He previously dated Hilary Duff for 2 and a half years before ending their relationship in November 2006.

Joel had a cameo role in the 2004 film Fat Albert and in 2006 film Material Girls. He has also recently become a father to Harlow Winter Kate who was born on the 11th January with current girlfriend Nicole Richie.
