|
Patrick Stump (born Patrick Martin Stumph [1] on April 27, 1984) in Glenview, Illinois, is an American musician, composer and producer. Most notably, he is the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and occasional pianist of the band Fall Out Boy.
In 2001, Stump co-founded the pop-punk band Fall Out Boy with Joe Trohman and Pete Wentz with Andy Hurley later joining the band. He first joined Fall Out Boy as a drummer, but his singing talent was soon discovered—he had never sung before Fall Out Boy. He was not originally the rhythm guitarist for the band, but after the departure of two members following the release of Fall Out Boy`s Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, he stepped into the role. They released their first full length album Fall Out Boy`s Evening Out With Your Girlfriend in 2003 on Uprising Records, although they shortly left the label to sign to Fueled By Ramen. They released Take This To Your Grave in May, 2003, their second full length album which earned them a devoted following and their first taste of success. In 2003, Stump and his band mates signed with Island Records, also releasing an acoustic EP called My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue and DVD, in 2004. The next year they released their third album, From Under The Cork Tree, which was the first album where Stump composed a lot of the music while Peter Wentz provided lyrics. Stump writes the instrumental parts for Fall Out Boy with Pete Wentz providing the lyrics. Fellow band member Joe Trohman says `I guess Patrick is some kind of musical genius -- he`s a total mad scientist.` |
