Nives Orešnik (born 1992) is a Slovene model who was crowned Miss Slovenia in 2012. Darren Hayes is one of her favourite singers. She studied mixed-media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. At the beginning of her reign as Miss Slovenia, Orešnik made headlines for having appeared in glamour photos in men's magazines with unsavoury reputations. She said that, after she was crowned, she began receiving many requests that she engage in humanitarian work. At the Miss World 2012 competition, Orešnik met Tara Teng, who was Miss World Canada; Jessica Baldachino, who was Miss Gibraltar; and Iris Thomsen, who was Miss World Denmark. These four women spent five weeks together at the competition, during which they bonded in their hotel while wearing tiaras and pyjamas. Teng invited Thompson, Baldachino, and Orešnik to visit her in Canada for a week. All three accepted Teng's invitation and visited Teng in Vancouver, British Columbia in February 2013. During their visit, they appeared on a telethon run by Variety, and they also visited some of Teng's other favourite charitable organizations, including Deborah's Gate, a safe house operated by The Salvation Army. The four also participated in the Women's Memorial March on Valentine's Day. They stayed in Canada for more than two weeks. Orešnik said that the Miss World Canada competition is more humanitarian-focused than the Miss Slovenia competition, and said that Teng believes passionately in the causes she promotes, living in accordance with what she believes. In June 2013, Orešnik met with the Miss Slovenia and Miss Earth Slovenia finalists in Lower Carniola. Also that month, Orešnik appeared at a Zumba fundraiser for an organization that opposes cruelty to animals.
