"Emily LLoyd: MY NIGHT IN A HOTEL WITH SEAN PENN: "We’d only been shooting Under The Hula Moon for a few days when my co-star Chris Penn, brother of Sean, approached me. ‘My brother has a crush on you,’ he said. Two days later, Sean arrived on set with his two children. He was chatty and not at all like his public persona. A few weeks later, he called me to ask me out. He said he was taking me to see a close friend of his. Sean banged on the door and when it opened, Jack Nicholson was standing there. Jack’s house was not your typical Hollywood mansion. It was quite small and had the feel of a grown-up bachelor pad. That night all Jack and Sean did was drone on about their angst regarding women. After two hours or so of listening to them whinge, I became restless and said to Sean: ‘This is boring. Why don’t you take me dancing.’ Jack just laughed. Back in London, we ended up at the same party. He gave me the name of his hotel and asked if I’d meet him there later. I did and we spent the night together. Another time, we went to the nightclub Tramp. In an argument over a seat, a guy called Sean a ‘midget’. Sean confronted the man, who threw a punch. Sean held his own but, after seeing the guy off, he had blood pouring from his nose. I took him into the ladies’ and patched him up. A few days later he returned to LA but, although we remained
in touch for a while, the distance between us and the difficulty of the situation with his estranged wife meant it was impossible to keep up contact."
