Followed George's career from his featured role in "Exodus" (1960)until his retirement in 1993. I thought his leading role in John Sturges "The Satan Bug" (1965) and acting in what was then the first techno-thriller, would make him a major A-list Star. As many times as I watched him in that film and others such as "Quick, Before it melts!" (1964) and "A Covenant with Death" (1967) and "The Happening" (1967) would only cement his position as a major Hollywood player. Why he never attained the "status" that Steve McQueen, James Garner, James Coburn, David Janssen and (even) Charles Bronson achieved is a mystery. My only complaint is that after he did the European Western, "Land Raiders", it seems as if his heart wasn't in his acting anymore. That intensity which first brought him notice was missing and his acting became more erratic, good and bad. Ah, well, that's all in the past. We should all be grateful that at the age of 85, he's still alive and with us.

He made a film w/Anth Quinn, where he and other young men kidnapped Quinn and ask for ransom that the wife would not give. Quinn and Maharis became partners to get back at the wife for not paying. what was the movie? anyone?

As a kid in the 60`s, what a joy it was to look forward to Route 66 each week, and know I`d be seeing Buzz Murdock! I had a major crush on him!!

Loved George`s work on Route 66. The effort he invested in his Buz Murdock character was fantastic. His character of the Monk in the pilot for that show showed promise also. Too bad it wasn`t made into a series. I`ve got some of his records and he is a great singer as well.
