Jimmy Ray Dean (August 10, 1928 – June 13, 2010) was an American country music singer, television host, actor and businessman. Although he may be best known today as the creator of the Jimmy Dean sausage brand, he became a national television personality starting on CBS in 1957. He rose to fame for his 1961 country crossover hit "Big Bad John" and his 1963 ABC television series, The Jimmy Dean Show, which also gave puppeteer Jim Henson his first national media exposure. His acting career included a supporting role as Willard Whyte in the 1971 James Bond movie, Diamonds Are Forever. He lived near Richmond, Virginia, and was nominated for the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010, although he was formally inducted posthumously.

He said that he wanted to meet all of us and buy us coffee, I remember his manager was having a fit. But he did meet us all and and buy us coffee. When I was 6 years old(1964) my family and I were in Las Vegas and Jimmy Dean was appearing. We were seated at a table near the stage and during his performance he came over to our side of the stage and walked down the stairs and took my hand and walked me back up on stage with him. There was a stool and he sat and placed me on his knee and started asking me questions. No matter what he asked me I kept saying don`t ask me, ask my daddy. Needless to say he sang the song and walked me right back to my seat! I will never forget that and remember it as if it were yesterday and not 45 years ago.
