Karina and Shahid had dated for 3 years and separated during the filming of Jab We Met. Their relationship was often reported in the media and was once center of scandal when onlookers with mobile cameras filmed them kissing and released it to the media. In 2006 Karina declared that she would become a vegetarian and accepted that Shahid had a role in her decision. The couple splited while filming Jab We Met
but the media took it as publicity stunt for the film, but it was later confirmed. The parting was amicable initially, but later the press reported many conflicts between the former couple.
