Between 1970 and 1979, Nico made about seven films with French director Philippe Garrel.
She met Garrel in 1969 and contributed the song "The Falconer" to his film, Le Lit de la Vierge.
Soon after, she was living with Garrel and became a central figure in his cinematic and personal circles.
Nico`s first acting appearance with Garrel occurred in his 1972 film, `La Cicatrice Intérieure`. Nico also supplied the music for this film and collaborated closely with the director. Her participation diminished with later films, which included the silent Jean Seberg biopic, `Les Hautes Solitudes`, released in 1974.
By 1974 Nico and Phillipe Garrel lived together in Paris, in Rue de Richelieu. The apartment was all dark and black and they were really poor. He was wrapped in a blanket and there were no lights, and the flat wasn`t clean. He could be there for hours doing nothing, just thinking.
By that time, Phillipe Garrel started to act like if he was Nico`s brother, not her partner or lover.
At the same time Nico met Lüül and he went to live with Nico and Phillipe Garrel at Rue de Richelieu and he had some fights with Phillipe Garrel, who was very jealous but by that time acted like a brother to Nico rather than a partner.
Once Nico thew Luul out of Phillipe Garrel`s flat telling him "You German Pig", he took it quite serious at that time and later of their relationship, they had fights. The worst fight it took place in New York and meant the end of their relationship. She hurled an iron to him and he tried to throttle her, police had to come and separated them, it was at the Chelsea Hotel where just two doors further Sid Vicious had killed his wife Nancy.
