At that stage, the front runner seemed to be Winona Williams, a spectacular African-American model who’d previously dated Jimi Hendrix and would later move on to David Bowie. But when the night’s partying was over and a day’s work lay ahead, Bramwell noted, Paul cleared every female from the place ‘like sweeping away the ashes with a broom’.
