Pierre Buyoya (24 November 1949 – 17 December 2020) was a Burundian politician and retired soldier who has ruled Burundi twice, from 1987 to 1993 and from 1996 to 2003. With 13 years combined in power, Buyoya is the second longest-serving President of Burundi.
