She then lived with actor Dorian Healey, star of the Thirtysomething series Wonderful You, for six stormy years before meeting Rankin on a picture shoot. They married in April 1995, but the relationship foundered under the pressures of parenthood. They parted less than two years later - the divorce then came through almost three years to the day that they married. "We decided to call it a day in the end rather than bring up Lyle in an acrimonious environment," says Kate. "It is painful. Some people can last together for 50 years, so it seems. But we don't compromise do we? We give up...we are the spoilt brats of the Nineties. I suppose there is something good, in that people want to live their own lives, but compromise could be better. I just don't know."
