About Me

“Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.” Cecil Beaton

I wish wild3080 would explain their reasoning for always changing Jean`s claim to fame to some b-rate musical? She`s most remembered for Jean-Luc Godard`s Breathless. Her most iconic look and photographs are from Breathless and the greatest achievement of her acting career is Breathless! It`s not even disputable.
2. Gene Clark - posted 2 days ago
Gene Clark is one of the greatest songwriters of all-time; he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Neil Young and Bobby Dylan.
3. Ordet (1955) - posted 1 month ago
Arguably my favorite film of all-time, Carl Dreyer`s Ordet is an intelligent work that is one of the most emotionally powerful films ever made -- the clixmax is perhaps the most miraculous sequence in the history of film!
4. Eva Marie Saint - posted 2 months ago
Eva Marie Saint wasn`t like the normality in Hollywood: she didn`t sleep around; she was more devoted to being with her family (oppose to her acting career); and she`s been in a very long lasting marriage. Therefore, the previous comment in my opinion is merely speaking ignorance.
5. 4 Devils (1928) - posted 3 months ago
If there was ever one film that I wish could resurface, it would most likely be that of F.W. Murnau`s 4 Devils (1928).
6. Balthazar (1966) - posted 4 months ago
Robert Bresson`s brilliant and achingly sorrowful `Balthazar` is such a painful vision and realistic look at life that one cannot help but burst into tears at the end.
7. Alain Delon - posted 4 months ago
Unfortunately, Delon`s looks overshadow his abilities as an actor - which is evident in the comments here. However, I feel it`s necessary to mention that he is a damn good actor; in fact, an innovative actor and an immensely dedicated actor as well, who has worked with some of the greatest filmmakers of all-time: Melville, Antonioni, Clement, Malle, Visconti, etc.
8. Ballad of a Soldier (1959) - posted 4 months ago
Ballad of a Soldier is one of the most compassionate, humanistic and poetically beautiful films ever made. The direction is handled with such care and tenderness; the characters are vividly and humanly portrayed; and the photography is simply magical, and at times, ethereal -- never neglected the camera effects of the 1920s (which is why I love Soviet cinematographers).
9. Leila Hyams - posted 4 months ago
Leila Hyams is one of the most sweet-natured, immensely charming and easily liked actresses of the 1930s. Unfortunately she was never given the opportunity to display much range as an actress; though consistently enchanting with her personality and beauty (minus Affairs of a Gentleman--which I`ve never liked her in.).
10. Joe Brown - posted 5 months ago
Joe E. Brown is still too undeservedly neglected; he`s truly one of the funniest, most talented, diverse and charming film comedians to have ever graced the screen--just looking at him makes me laugh. Therefore, I`ll watch anything with Joe E. Brown`s name on it.
