I always have wondered why the orginal aunt Viv made her exit from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with more than a handful of fans and a couple episodes under her belt. First, I thought maybe it was something related to skin color, because believe or not some black sitcoms did not or hell still do not really welcome a beautiful dark-skinned woman. I guess they did not get the memo that were are in the 21st century. Essence.com had a chance to have a chat with with Aunt Viv, real name Janet Hubert.
On the whole drama with her and Will:
ESSENCE.COM: The reports were you and Will didn’t get along. Is that true?
HUBERT: We got along fine. We had so much fun on that set. That’s why I was so shocked. But there was something about Will at that time that I hope has changed. He always had to win. He has an unbelievable competitive spirit.
On how her leaving the show affected her career:
ESSENCE.COM: How did all of that affect your career?HUBERT: I actually wrote a book, “Murder of a Sitcom Mother.” I needed to set the record straight for my son. [But I’m not] going to publish the book because my soul is healed. I’m getting a chance to talk to you, to talk to the public and to let people hear my side, finally, 15 years later. It was devastating what happened to me afterwards. Unbelievable things happened. It was horrible.
On her lovely skin color:
ESSENCE.COM: Despite what happened in the end, you must’ve had loyal fans who loved your character and how you played her.
HUBERT: They loved what I did with her. They really loved to have this dark-skinned sister playing this upscale woman. The ideal woman in the eyes of many of our men is light and bright. Dark-skinned sisters, we have a hard time. Part of my beauty to me was my dark skin. I love my dark skin. I feel it’s so much a part of my beauty.
Hubert also spoke on how some white teachers do not beleive that the young african-american kids are smart and how she had to take a stand as a black woman and most of all a mother of one of those young african-american kids that was failed by these teachers or school system. Also my favorite on where she speaks on Omarosa, Nicole Richie and says ‘who are those people’ Classic! [Source]
FOXY BROWN has taken aim at her former mentor and collaborator JAY-Z for failing to support her while she was incarcerated for eight months in 2007 and 2008. The rapper, who partnered with the mogul on the hit Bonnie & Clyde, had hoped Jay-Z would be there for her while she spent time behind bars for a probation violation in September (07) - after she showed him so much loyalty when 50 Cent wanted to poach her from Def Jam.

She says, "There are times when I just really needed him... and he just wasn`t there." And, in a new interview with rap magazine XXL, recorded shortly after her release in May (08), she adds, "I`ve been incarcerated for eight months, and Jay`s been everywhere, and he hasn`t mentioned one thing about, `Tell her I love her. Tell her to be strong.` That broke my heart more than anything. "When they sent me to jail, I just knew he would be there - everyone came. But he never showed up."
