A Playboy Playmate is seeking justice after an incident that occurred on May 25, 2006 when NYPD officers used excessive force and leered at her after a cabdriver falsely claimed she threatened him with a gun.

"I haven`t been able to sleep right since," said 35-year-old Stephanie Adams, Playboy’s Miss November 1992. "The doctors have told me that my injuries are permanent and I`m still in constant pain."

Adams, a cover model, gay rights advocate and author of over a dozen new age books, said the incident began around 11 p.m. when she entered a cab on the Upper East Side operated by Eric Darko and asked to be taken to her home. At some point, Darko allegedly refused to drive farther, saying it was inconvenient for him to drive a half a block to her destination.

When Adams asked him to drop her off where she requested, Darko started to curse and threaten her. Then when he tried to assault her, Adams called 911. Darko called 911 shortly after Adams did, but filed a false report, telling police that Adams had a gun and threatened to kill him. Minutes later, Adams said five to seven plain-clothes, never-identified officers showed up and drew their weapons, threatening to shoot if she moved.

After handing officers her bag to check for a weapon, and after they realized she did not have a weapon, Adams asked them to contact a community affairs cop, lieutenant, and commanding officer she knew at the 10th Precinct.

"That`s when they grabbed the back of my head and they forced me to the ground," she said. "Then they put enormous pressure on my back and inappropriately touched me. When they got off of me, I got up and I said, `Please, if you really feel that I have a gun, check me.` That`s when they leered at my private areas and said, `Ma`am from what we can see and what you’re wearing, there is no way that you can have a gun in that outfit."

Adams` attorney Sanford Rubenstein said his client is seeking $5 million in damages from the city and the NYPD and has asked the Manhattan District Attorney`s Office to conduct an investigation. The officers never answered the 911 call Adams made at the scene, Rubenstein said, but Adams did file a complaint at the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission as well as the Civilian Complaint Review Board.

Since then, the taxi driver was fined, fired and had his license revoked by the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission. The police officers refused to identify themselves to Adams, but were later identified by the Civilian Complaint Review Board and are thoroughly being investigated by Internal Affairs.

Adams` complaint was filed at the New York State Supreme Court, and Adams made a public statement about the incident saying "I did not get to where I am in life by being weak and allowing others, who are weak, try and "break" me. These men are in fact powerless cowards hiding behind an honorable badge and I will not stop until justice has been served". Paul Browne, NYPD`s chief spokesman, did not return messages seeking comment.

You`d think the police would fight criminals, not pretty women that already get assaulted enough by rude cab drivers, etc. No wonder the city has so many lawsuits. I hope she wins.
