Robert Pattinson: I Almost Quit Acting

Twilight star Robert Pattinson has become an international sensation, thanks to the vampire romance`s stunning box-office success, but surprisingly, the 22-year-old heartthrob almost gave up acting altogether just a few years ago.

Rob got his first big break playing Cedric Diggory in the 2005 blockbuster Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but hadn`t been in any high-profile roles until he was cast in Twilight in 2007.

Before Twi, Rob became so disillusioned with acting that he was considering giving it up altogether. Fortunately for his legions of fans, an indie flick he filmed shortly before before he was offered Twilight helped reawaken his passion for acting.

"I did [Little Ashes] before Twilight," Rob recounts. "I was going to give up acting before that...I was just so disinterested in acting at the time. I just thought, `Oh a three-month vacation in Spain. Okay.` "

In Little Ashes, Rob plays the neurotic Spanish artist Salvador Dali. Researching and preparing for the role was therapeutic for the young Brit. "It was so intense the whole time and everybody was speaking Spanish and I don`t speak a word of Spanish," he says. "I was the only English person there for the majority of the time. It gave me a reason to really focus on the script and the research to a ridiculous degree."

Pattinson invested so much time preparing for the role that he wound up developing a heightened sense of satisfaction from the process. "It was the one time I felt slightly satisfied," he recalls. "I wanted to bring that intensity to every job."

In addition to all the rejection that actors constantly face, Rob was turned off by how money-focused the film industry was.

"Most films when they`re being made now, [the studios are] designing it to make money even before it`s started shooting," he says. "I just thought I don`t want to be adding sh*t to the pile, so I might as well not be part of it."

Rob, who says he would`ve become a musician if he hadn`t pursued acting, plays piano and guitar and composes music in his free time. And while music remains an essential part of his life, for now, the London native is focused on his film career. "I really love films," he says. "I`d like it if there was another golden age [of films] like the `70s, but I don`t think that will be for a while."

Rob has a heavy work schedule ahead for at least the next two years: In March, he`ll begin filming New Moon, the sequel to Twilight. After that wraps, Rob will shoot Eclipse (the sequel to New Moon), and has indicated that Breaking Dawn (the fourth and last installment in the Twilight book series) will soon be in the works.

"[New Moon is] my favorite book and I think you can really change the character in the end," says Rob. "[Edward is] distraught, and every ounce of confidence he has in the first [book] is gone by the end of the second one, when he`s essentially committing suicide. I can create something quite special with it if they let me."

Little Ashes opens in May 2009. New Moon opens in November 2009, while Eclipse comes out in June 2010.

yes, granted he is a good actor, he does NOT however, fit the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga.

I`m glad he did not quit acting. He`s good at it, I don`t see why he would. I agree, to an extent, New Moon is one of my favorites. It`s very powerful and intense towards love. I can see why it`s Rob`s favorite. To me it`s not my most favorite is because I wish Edward was in the book more. But I can`t wait to see Rob in New Moon and Eclipse (:

Omg i am soo glad that he did not quit acting. i actually like him as and Edward. very nice. WHOA i had NOOO idea that Eclipse comes out next June. really quick after New Moon. This guy is gonna be like make 1 billion dollars by the time he`s even like 25!
