BATTERED MINDY McCREADY REUNITES WITH ABUSIVE BF

Troubled country singer Mindy McCready has reunited with ex-boyfriend Billy McKnight - the man she accused of trying to kill her!

In the wake of the Rihanna/Chris Brown scandal that`s shocked music fans worldwide, Mindy has become another example of a woman who`s run back to the arms of the man she charged with beating her.

In an exclusive interview with The ENQUIRER, Billy confirmed that he and Mindy are "getting back on track and learning to treat each other kindly.

"We`re trying to get past all the bad stuff we`ve been through," he says.

In 2005, Billy served 30 days in jail after being arrested and charged with attempted murder because he allegedly beat and choked Mindy, but the case was later dismissed. Mindy said that during their altercation, Billy told her: "I am going to kill you!"

Now Mindy has left Nashville and moved to Billy`s native Florida, he says. And he adds that their 3-year-old son, Zander, is the reason they`re giving their romance another shot.

"We both came to the realization we have to do everything we can to do right by our son," Billy says. "As far as our relationship as a couple, let`s just say we`re taking baby steps right now."

While Billy maintains a cautious but hopeful outlook for the future, pals of the couple fear the volatile relationship will once again explode.

"Mindy and Billy must`ve completely lost their minds," one pal said. "Their relationship was marred by one clash after the next, and their personalities haven`t changed much."

Getting her life back on track is going to be quite a challenge for Mindy. She`s been hospitalized for suicide attempts and drug overdoses, and has a rap sheet that includes prescription drug fraud, drunk driving, battery and parole violation.

In a strange twist, Mindy, 33, and Billy, 42, are currently promoting a duet, "Sweeter," that they recorded together before the alleged attack.
