In the March 30 issue of Country Weekly, Randy Travis reflected on his remarkable career as he released his latest CD, I Told You So—The Ultimate Hits of Randy Travis. Randy told Country Weekly that the success of the inspirational tune Three Wooden Crosses, which became a country smash, surprised him.

“That really did shock me,” Randy recalls. “I didn’t think it would have the chart life that it had.” Randy adds that he always liked the song, but did not think that radio would play a tune with a spiritually-driven message. “Back when I grew up, radio thought nothing about playing songs like that because that core country audience was the same group that was in church on Sunday mornings. I don’t understand why they don’t play more of it.”

Randy also talked about the songwriters who have provided him with his biggest hits over the years. “Every time we do an album,” Randy says, “the writers give us the very best they have. I have always been thankful for that.”
