 The first Melrose Place veteran has been cast in the CW`s new Melrose Place series, and the actress going back to work is... Laura Leighton.Laura, who played nutty schemer Sydney Andrews, will be on the show in a recurring role. Although her character was presumed dead at the end of season five, she apparently survived being mowed down by a car and will be back playing the landlord to the new crop of tenants. Already cast in the series are Ashlee Simpson, Katie Cassidy and Jessica Lucas. Laura`s two-episode stint on the original Melrose was a big win for her. It was her first acting gig and led to a job on the series for four years. It`s also where she met her husband Doug Savant, who was Matt Fielding on the series and now appears on Desperate Housewives. They have two children.
