Ashley Tisdale and Her Ex Are Still Good Friends

Ashley recently split from her boyfriend, Jared Murillo of the boy band V Factory, but the pair are as friendly as ever.

"They remain good friends," Murillo`s dad Alex tells PEOPLE exclusively, of his son, 20, and Tisdale, 23. "They are in the same circle, they have the same friends. And you know what? You never know how life turns out. They might hook up again, you just never know."

Adds Murillo`s dad, "I think it was just the right time to do what they did."

The couple`s split comes at a time when Murillo`s band (he also previously co-starred in High School Musical with Tisdale) is becoming increasingly busy: They`re gearing up to shoot the video for V Factory`s new single, "Lovestruck." Also on tap is a tour and a Warner Brothers Records-released album, both slated for this summer.

"Jared is very, very happy, and is very pleased with what`s going on with his work," the elder Murillo tells PEOPLE. "I think for him it`s a good time now to move forward. His background has always been performing on the road, so he`s very comfortable. It`s like his home. It is home."

And not surprisingly, Murillo`s dad is one of V Factory`s biggest fans. "They`ve got some dynamite songs," he says of the five-member group, which has a pop/R&B/urban sound. "They`re going to be the big surprise of the summer."
