Billy Crawford on his relationship with Nikki Gil: ‘Kung anong nakikita ng tao off-cam, yun na yun’

Having signed up for another year with the Kapamilya network, international pop star Billy Crawford says he’s glad to have found more reasons to stay in the country. With a slew of acting projects lined up, Billy is more than excited to start the year right. “I’ll still be doing ASAP ‘09, I’ll be a part of a new sitcom Kokey, I have the Kanto Boys (his group with fellow ASAP ‘09 buddies John Lloyd Cruz, Vhong Navarro, and Luis Manzano) and guest appearances on various shows and soaps. Hopefully tuloy-tuloy na ito. I’m very happy to be here sa Pilipinas and I just want to inspire everybody. That’s why I’m here and nagpapasalamat din ako sa mga tao,” he shares after the contract signing last March 9 at the ABS-CBN compound.

Billy has also become more open about his rumored relationship with singer and actress Nikki Gil. The Kanto Boys member says that he has nothing but admiration and respect for the fact that Nikki proudly wears a purity ring, which means she has chosen to remain a virgin before marriage. “Sa mga ganyan, let’s just leave that for respect naman sa pamilya niya and of course for Nikki. I think it’s a blessing that we have people like that in this world and makikita mo naman yung pagmamahal ng pamilya niya sa kanya. I’m happy that she’s proud to wear it and I’m happy to be a part of it. Pero let’s leave that for privacy sa kanya, so mas maganda yung hindi pinag-uusapan,” he says.

Although the two former Pinoy Dream Academy hosts have been spotted being lovey-dovey in public, they have yet to admit to officially having a relationship. “Alam mo, kung anong nakikita ng tao off-cam, yun na yun. We know where we stand and we’re not here na idolohin ng ibang mga tao tapos mababastusan ang tao. Hindi naman. Kasi Nikki’s very respectable and very, very sweet. Not many people can finish school, graduate, and continue what she does. Sobrang inspiration sa mga tao yung mga ginagawa niya. For me, I’m trying to keep this as quiet as possible, just out of respect sa pamilya niya at sa akin. Let’s just leave it as it is. Let’s just say that we’re really happy. Happing-happy kami and of course mami-miss ko naman siya when I’m in the States,” he explains.

Billy leaves for the US tomorrow, March 11, as part of Sarah Geronimo’s series of shows in various cities. The 26-year-old singer-host will be back in time for a major concert with another international artist Akon. “I’ll be gone for two months. I’ll do 14 shows and then pagbalik ko dito sa May 23, I have a back-to-back concert with Akon. It’s going to be a very special show at the Araneta Coliseum,” he shares.

Billy shares that he first met Akon six years ago. “Actually magkasama kami sa France dati nung isang music awards show. We also did a couple of shows there. Pero it’s the first time for us to do a back-to-back show,” he says. After his last major concert It’s Time in 2007, Billy looks forward to preparing for his upcoming back-to-back show with Akon. “I think the fans can expect two great shows with high energy, lots of familiar songs and of course, we’re all excited to see Akon back here as well. Yun ang nakakatuwa, yung nakikita niyong mga world class performers na pumupunta dito, kung napapnsin niyo, bumabalik sila,” he states. Billy says there might even be a chance for him to collaborate with Akon in the future. “Well hopefully. We’ll see what happens. Let’s start with this concert first and after the concert, the show must go on. But this show, it’s going to be really fresh,” he says.

Although he will be doing a lot more acting this year, Billy says that singing and performing will still be a priority in his career. “I’ll still be singing. I’ll still be making an album, which will be coming out this early summer. Hindi naman mawawala si Billy Crawford as a performer, pero you’ll see me more going around and trying new things,” he adds.
