Season nine of "Dancing with the Stars" premiered Monday night, with a whole new crop of celebs and dancers showing off their best moves. The men took to the dance floor in part one of the three night season premiere, and for the first time, each celeb was required to perform both a Latin and a ballroom dance. In the audience were Marie Osmond, who interviewed the celebs backstage for ET, last season's winner and runner-up Shawn Johnson and Gilles Marini, respectively, and even Jermaine Jackson. Pop star Aaron Carter and his pro partner Karina Smirnoff were up first, taking the dance floor with their cha cha. All of the judges agreed that Aaron has a lot of potential, but they also agreed that he needs some work, and awarded the pair a score of 22. Ultimate Fighting Champion Chuck Liddell and his partner Anna Trebunskaya didn't thrill the judges with their dancing debut - the pair earned a 16 for their foxtrot. Judge Bruno Tonioli called the footwork "poor" and the lines "terrible." Judge Carrie Ann Inaba came to Chuck's defense, saying, "You're not graceful yet, but you were smooth," while judge Len Goodman told Chuck to "try get in touch with your feminine side a little bit more." Martial Arts Master Mark Dacascos and his partner Lacey Schwimmer cha-cha-cha'd their way to a score of 21. Carrie Ann thought Mark has "a lot of potential," while Len had mixed feelings. Len thought he "had good hip action," but said he thought Mark's "footwork [was] a little bit dodgy." Actor and comedian Ashley Hamilton and his pro partner Edyta Sliwinska didn't get raves from the judges for their foxtrot and scored a 15. Len said their dance "had a roughness about it," while Carrie Ann said, "You have to define yourself and I didn't see anything that sort of defined you or separated you [from the competition]." Bruno took it a step further and said the performance had "a total lack of showmanship," going on to say, "To me this was dead." Entertainer Donny Osmond and his partner Kym Johnson's foxtrot was full of theatricality, but that wasn't enough to win over the judges completely. While they achieved a score of 20, Len said that it was "too theatrical," and that he was looking for "a little bit more ballroom." Carrie Ann said, "It's always a pleasure to watch you Donny," but added, "This is ballroom, we want to see the hold, we want to see the ballroom dancing, ok sir?" Snowboard champion Louie Vito and partner Chelsie Hightower took the floor with their foxtrot, earning a 19. Carrie Ann and Len both said they enjoyed the dance, while Bruno had a more mixed opinion. "It was like watching a little dancing hobbit," Bruno said, going on to say, "It lacked fluidity, you fell twice, but I think if you carry on you're going to be really really good." Former Dallas Cowboys football champ Michael Irvin and his pro partner Anna Demidova earned a paltry score of 13 for their cha cha. Len said, "For me, it wasn't a first great dance, I'm afraid." Carrie Ann thought they need to fill their next routine with "way more dance moves." Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and two-time "Dancing" champ Cheryl Burke didn't thrill the judges with their cha cha, earning a score of 16. Bruno reacted by exclaiming, "You're crazier than Sarah Palin! Bloody hell, what's going on?" Carrie Ann was also taken aback by the performance, saying, "That was surreal. Wow, Tom DeLay you're a wild thing," but going on to add, "You're very light on your feet; you have a natural grace to you which blows me away." Len summed the performance up by saying, "Parts were magic, parts were tragic." Next up were the first-ever relay dances, in which the dancers were split into two groups, with four pairs dancing side-by-side, being scored based on their rank in their group. Louie, Chuck, Ashley, Donny and their pro partners faced off in the salsa relay. Carrie Ann critiqued, "Side by side, Donny, you smoked 'em!" The other judges agreed, with Bruno adding, "Donny, you were shaking like the King of Puerto Rico." The judges liked Ashley's dance the least, with Len commenting, "Ashley, that was a dance only a father could love." Donny was the top scorer, earning 10 points, Louie received 8 points, Chuck received 6 points, and Ashley received 4 points. Aaron, Tom, Mark and Michael took the floor with their partners for the Viennese Waltz relay. Bruno loved Aaron's rotation and Mark's lines. Carrie Ann thought that Michael did "much better" and told Mark that he has "the potential to be fantastic." The judges scored Aaron with 10 points, Mark with 8 points, Michael with 6 points and Tom with 4 points.
