De Niro Gets LA Bafta Award

Actor Robert De Niro has received the Stanley Kubrick award for excellence in film at the Bafta/LA Britannia awards.

De Niro, currently starring in comedy drama Everybody`s Fine, said he was "happy" to be at the Los Angeles event.

Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas was also recognised at the ceremony, receiving a trophy for his worldwide contribution to filmed entertainment.

Other prizes went to director Danny Boyle, actor Colin Firth and actress Emily Blunt.

Boyle, whose film Slumdog Millionaire won eight Oscars earlier this year, said it was "lovely" to receive a directing award named in honour of late film-maker John Schlesinger.
