Karen Foster: Mom I know you think of Al as a family member but I don`t.

Jean-Luc: That come out wrong.
Frank Lambert: [about Carol bringing Jean-luc home] You brought me a french man?
Trivia
In one episode, Jean-Luc tells Carol that she looks like Chrissy from "Three`s Company" (1977). Suzanne Somers really did play Chrissy on the show.
Many sets used in scenes inside the house were also used in _"Hogan Family, The" (1986)_ and "Family Matters" (1989).
This show was set in the same television universe as "Family Matters" (1989). In fact, Steve Urkel made an appearance in one episode.
Opening of show is at an amusement park which is supposed to be located on the shores of Lake Michigan. The amusement park is actually Six Flags Magic Mountain (located in Valencia, California) which in reality is many miles inland from the Pacific Ocean.
When `Patrick Duffy` agreed to return to "Dallas" (1978) in 1986, he had it put in his contract that he would get to be on another television show after "Dallas" ended. Honoring that agreement, this show was created specifically for Duffy, and it premiered the season after "Dallas" ended.
In one episode, J.T. tells Frank that "If you`re watching Baywatch with your wife, you know nothing about marriage." Brandon Call played Hobie Buchannon in the first season of "Baywatch" (1989).
After the 6th season ABC canceled the show but then CBS picked it up for its 7th and last season.
The series was nearly canceled after season 5. It was saved when they made Bronson Pinchot and Jason Marsden regular characters. This is why there were no new episodes from May 1996 through March 1997.
Sasha Mitchell was a last minute addition to the show and did not appear until the 4th episode of season 1.
#
# Sasha Mitchell was eventually given his job back and did appear in the second to last episode but the series was canceled and his return was short lived.
J.T.`s initials stand for John Thomas.
In only the first few episodes of the series (including the pilot), during the opening credits there is an extra, unspecified kid in the Lambert/Foster clan. He can be seen as the family enters the amusement park and scatters to different areas, during Peggy Rea`s credit, and another instance with Susan Somers later in the sequence. It`s suspected that character of Mark Foster was originally cast as another actor, and later replaced by Christopher Castile, as evidenced by his absence from the family rollercoaster ride at the end.
#
# Sasha Mitchell`s character (James Beaumont-Ewing) also had Patrick Duffy`s character (Bobby Ewing) as uncle in their previous, even bigger hit series, "Dallas" (1978).
Frank (`Patrick Duffy`) is doing a crossword puzzle and trying to think of a 6 letter word for a city in Texas (Dallas.) "Dallas" (1978) was the show on which Patrick Duffy starred prior to Step By Step.
At one point Carol says that Jean-Luc looks like Barbara Eden from "I Dream of Jeannie", Jean-Luc replies "and You look like Chrissy from `Three`s Company`." Suzanne Somers played Chrissy in "Three`s Company" (1977).
