Trivia

  • Director Robert Zemeckis filmed this while production on his Cast Away (2000) was shut down (for Tom Hanks to lose weight for his character).
  • When Claire is going through the clothes in Caitlyn`s dresser, an E.T. figurine is sitting on top of the dresser. Harrison Ford`s wife, Melissa Mathison, wrote and produced _E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)_ in 1982. Harrison Ford played the school principal in a deleted scene from E.T. This could also be a reference to the uncredited producer of the film, Steven Spielberg, who directed E.T.
  • # # The birthday that appears on Madison Frank`s missing persons` report is the actual birthday of the actress that portrays her (Amber Valletta).
  • Many people claim that just as the final scene at the cemetery fades out to the closing credits, you can briefly see the shadows on the snow forming a face (Madison`s or Norman`s?). There are two eyes, a nose and lips across the entire screen. Others think this is imagination.
  • James Remar delivers the line "I didn`t kill my wife" similar to the way Harrison Ford did in The Fugitive (1993).
  • There is a scene in the trailer in which Claire is looking at a photograph and notices a ghost face in the window. This scene never appears in the movie.
  • On the back of Claire and Norman`s sailboat, it says GOOD GENES.
  • The beautiful Vermont home depicted in the film was built in its coastal setting for the day scenes only. After the film was over, it was torn down as it was not built according to codes. The rooms of the house were duplicated on an L.A. soundstage for the night scenes.
  • Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford were director Robert Zemeckis`s first and only choices for the lead roles of Claire and Norman Spencer.
  • When Michelle Pfeiffer lies stunned on the floor and the murderer leans over her face, the camera seemingly cranes down underneath the floor to look directly up at her face. The effect was created by using a glass floor. The solid floor at the start of the shot is drawn in by computer. A glass floor is also used when she drops the keys later on.
  • The bridge depicted in the movie is in reality quite close to where the house was built (near the D.A.R. state park in Vermont). Filming required closing the bridge for several days. This caused a lot of problems for the local populations on both sides of the long Lake Champlain, as the bridge is one of the few places to cross, aside from detouring hours out of the way to take a long (and expensive) ride on one of the ferries.
