[Mittens looks back at Bolt and laughs nervously]

Rhino: All my training has prepared me for this moment.
[rushes guard]
Rhino: Die! Diiie!

Mittens: Louie, what is this?
Louie: It was a slow week. I mean, that`s half of what I got.
Mittens: [stomach growls]
Mittens: You hear this, Louie? I`m starving here. And when the old stomach starts talking, it`s not talking to me. It`s talking to... the claws!
Louie: Not the claws! Please!
Mittens: I`m holding these bad boys back as best as I can, but the thing is it`s not up to me. The stomach`s got a direct line to these babies, and I`m picking up a lot of chatter! So, I`ll talk to the claws, but in exchange, next week, all your food comes to me.
Louie: But that`s not our deal! I bring you half, you give me protection! That`s our deal.
Mittens: Yeah, well, the deal just expired. Now, get lost.
The Director: [Checking the latest film for errors] Boom mike!
Crewman 1: Got a boom mike.

[a man holding a boom mike in the background lowers it discreetly]
The Director: That`s sloppy. The dog could`ve seen that. He could`ve seen that!
Mindy: Uh, who cares if the dog sees a boom mike?
The Director: Forgive me for answering a question with a question, but- who are you?
Mindy: Mindy Parker, from the network.
The Director: Of course. Let me ask you, Mindy From The Network, what do you see here?
[Gestures toward a screen showing Bolt]
Mindy: Uhh... the dog?
The Director: "The dog" she says. Oh, Mindy. Poor, poor Mindy.
Mindy: Am I- missing something?
The Director: You`re missing *everything*, Mindy. You see a dog. I see an animal that believes with every fiber of his being, *every fiber*... that the girl he loves is in mortal danger. I see a depth of emotion on the face of that canine the likes of which has never been captured on screen before. *Never*, Mindy From The Network. We jump through hoops to make sure Bolt believes everything is real. It`s why we don`t miss marks. It`s why we don`t reshoot.
[Turns back to the main screen]
The Director: And it`s why we most certainly do not let the dog see boom mikes!
[Reaches for one of the screens showing Bolt with a determined expression on his face, while speaking passionately]
The Director: Because, Mindy From The Network, if the dog believes it, the audience believes it.
Mindy: [Unimpressed] Wow. Okay, you want reality, here you go chief. The show`s too predictable. The girl`s in danger, the dog saves her from the creepy english guy, we get it. There`s always a happy ending. And our focus groups tell us 18 to 35 year olds are unhappy. They`re not happy with happy. So maybe you should, I don`t know, spend a little less time worrying about the dog`s method acting, and more time figuring out how to stop 20 year olds in Topeka from changing the channel. Because if you lose so much as half a rating point, so help me, I will fire everyone in this room, starting with you! How`s that for real?
Bolt: Hmm... padlock.
[stares intensely at the lock while Mittens tries to get away]
Mittens: Listen Cujo, I got some pretty wicked claws under these mitts, do not, I beg of you do not make me bring out these bad boys! It gets ugly!
[Bolt continues to stare at the padlock]
Mittens: What are you doing?
Bolt: Stay back! If I stare at the lock really hard, it`ll burst into flames and melt.
[Mittens stares at him for a second]
Mittens: Now I`m concerned on a number of levels.
Mittens: [Bolt is leaving the studio lot after witnessing his owner working with another dog due to his absence] Hey Wags!
Bolt: Mittens? What are you doing here?
Mittens: Eh, long story short I was tied to a delusional dog and dragged across the country, but that is not important. Now the real question is, what are you doing here and why aren`t you in there?
Bolt: You were right about her, Mittens, she uh, well... it wasn`t real
Mittens: No Bolt it is real, I was in there just now, I saw her face after you left. She`s brokenhearted, she doesn`t want just any dog, she loves you. She`s your person, Bolt, and you are her dog.
[Bolt`s stomach growls]
Bolt: Ah! What is that?
Mittens: What?
Bolt: [stomach growls again] That! Okay, you have two seconds to tell me what you`ve implanted in me, cat! Poison? A parasite? Poison? Wait, I just said that, didn`t I? See, I`m all discombobulated! I can`t think straight!
Mittens: [in disgust] Oh, I don`t believe this. You`re hungry!
[Bolt`s stomach growls a third time]
Bolt: [jumps on Mittens] Where is the antidote?
Mittens: Okay, okay! Alright!
[Mittens shows Bolt a trailer park]
Mittens: There`s your antidote: food.
Rhino: [singing] There`s no truck that I know that can keep in Bolt and Rhino!
Rhino: Bolt! I can be a valuable addition to your team...
Bolt: I`m listening...
Rhino: I`m lightning quick, I have razor-sharp reflexes. Wha! And I`m a master of stealth.
[laughs]
Rhino: Plus, I`ll keep the cat in check.
[Mittens rolls her eyes]
Bolt: [Gets down close to Rhino`s ball] The road`ll be rough.
Rhino: [indicates] I have a ball.
Bolt: There`s no turnin` back.
Rhino: Guess I`ll have to "roll" with the punches!
["surfs" his ball]
Bolt: Easy won`t be part of the equation...
Rhino: Promise?
Bolt: I gotta warn ya, going into the belly of the beast - danger at every turn.
Rhino: [getting closer] I eat danger for breakfast!
Bolt: You hungry?
Rhino: [cracks neck] Starving!
Mittens: Go on, use the dog face. This is gonna be beautiful.
Bolt: [looks confused]
Mittens: You know, beg.

Bolt is an American White Shepherd.
The diesel locomotives pulling the freight train that Bolt swings onto from the bridge are EMD SD70MACs, owned by CSX. Some of the train cars are Gunderson 48` All-Purpose well cars, owned by Trailer Train Corporation (TTX).
Miley Cyrus was not the first choice for Penny. Chloe Moretz voiced the entire film before Miley was placed on the project.

# When Bolt threatens to drop Mittens from the overpass unless she tells him where Penny is, the bus from Speed (1994/I) (with 2525 on the roof) passes underneath.
The design of Rhino in his plastic ball was based on John Lasseter`s pet chinchilla, which was brought to an animators` retreat during the film`s production.

# Originally developed by Chris Sanders (creator and co-director of Lilo & Stitch (2002)) as "American Dog", with a similar storyline, but with major location and character changes. The titular dog, named Henry, originally had much more of a "Stitch" look, the character of Mittens was originally Ogo, a male cat with an eye patch who worked as a mechanic in a junkyard (this character eventually became the star of Sanders` personal webcomic, "Kiskaloo"), Rhino was originally an oversized radioactive rabbit, and a lot of the movie took place in the deserts of the American Southwest (similar to the location of Pixar`s Cars (2006)). This movie features a girl named Penny and her dog having crazy adventures with a super villain and his cat. This is eerily similar to the TV show "Inspector Gadget" (1983) in which a girl named Penny and her dog help Inspector Gadget against a super villain with a cat. Both dogs have B`s as first letter in their names- Bolt and Brain, and both dogs are super smart, communicate only with the girl, and usually end up saving the day.

# First Disney animated feature conceived and produced in 3-D. The two previous features, Chicken Little (2005) and Meet the Robinsons (2007), were converted to 3-D after the fact.
Storyboarded but not animated was a scene in Las Vegas, where Bolt (who was just passing through the city with Mittens and Rhino, and foraging for food) is confronted in a dark alley by two Doberman Pinschers, who proceed to brutally bum-rush him, and rip off his collar (complete with ironic quick cuts of clips from the "Bolt" TV show playing on a big TV display, which Rhino was watching, in the city nearby). Left for dead by the two dogs, Bolt, disillusioned, realizes that his "super powers" are not real (which was further emphasized when Bolt then sees the program for himself). The producers decided to nix this scene, as they not only felt that it was way too dark, but it didn`t fit into the story structurally.
When Penny is printing "LOST DOG" flyers, the last 4 digits of the phone number on the copier are: 8423. This makes the number (877) 504-8423. 877-504-8423 is a number reserved by ABC for movies and TV series. Calling it will provide a short tape recorded message about how fake it is.
In the German version of the movie the hamsters name has been changed from Rhino to Dino.
In the French version of the movie, Bolt is called Volt.
When the animals arrive at the Hollywood studio, a car pulls up and the security guard is distracted by the driver who has an appointment with "Joe Mateo". Joseph Mateo is one of the studio artists listed in the movie`s credits.

Originally, Mittens was to be called Mister Mittens as her masters never took the time to check if she was male or female.
Look and lighting director Adolph Lusinsky and his team traveled to several of the film`s "real-life locations" such as an Ohio trailer park, the San Francisco docks, New York streets and the desert surrounding Las Vegas to study how the light in those places interacted with the scenery.
Directors Byron Howard and Chris Williams and look and lighting director Adolph Lusinsky were inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper and films from the early seventies, especially the works of cinematographers Gordon Willis and Vilmos Zsigmond for the film`s visual look.

# In order to properly animate Rhino, the crew adopted a real hamster which they called Doink and filmed it from beneath while it was walking on a sheet of Plexiglas. Thus they were able to see how Rhino would walk in his plastic ball.

The crew found it difficult to find a balance for Mittens` appearance, between her neglected mangy fur, her hooligan side due to her miserable life on the streets and parts of softer fur still visible from every angle.

For the French dub, Bolt is voiced by actor Richard Anconina while the two actor cats and the various pigeons are voiced by comedic duo Omar Sy and Fred Testot.
Despite the film being fully computer animated, the crew still relied heavily on hand-drawn storyboards.
In France, all the cinemas carrying the 3D version of the film showed it exclusively in its French dub. As such, viewers who wanted to see the film in English (with subtitles) had no choice bu to see the 2D version.
When Rhino rolls into the dog pound, the dogs barking "Ball! Ball! Ball!" do the same intonation and word sequence as the seagulls in Finding Nemo (2003), who say, "Mine! Mine! Mine!" when they spot food.
Another sequence storyboarded but not animated was another variation of Bolt realizing that his super-powers are not real, this time, through dramatic failure: Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino were traveling along a bridge over a river. Rhino accidentally falls off the bridge, and to Mittens` terror, Bolt, still believing himself to have super-powers, jumps in to save him. The rescue doesn`t quite go as Bolt expected, and he almost drowns, but still tries hard to save Rhino. When Mittens helps a shaken Bolt back to shore, they find Rhino`s hamster ball, believing him to be dead, until they see a wet, awestruck Rhino, who thanks Bolt for saving him. But Bolt realizes that he didn`t really save Rhino, and feels the lightning bolt shape on his side, which smeared from the water. The scene was nixed, because, once again, it didn`t fit into the story structurally, and it was felt that something more poignant had to be done with this scene, which is what was done in the final film.
The "Bolt" TV show (and thus, Bolt`s alias) was originally going to be called "The Omega Dog."
