Trivia

Trivia and Quotes

Quotes
  • Orville Wingait: That actor! She`s in love with that actor!
  • Joe D. Ross: When the show`s over and it`s the success I hope it is, we`ve got alot of talking to do. Jane Falbury: What about? Joe D. Ross: Oh, all kinds of things. First I want to hear the story of your life. Everything that`s ever happened to you since you were so high. And then I want to know what you eat for breakfast, what`s your favorite color, what comic strips you read. Then we`ll talk about shoes, and ships, and sealing wax, and shows. Farms. Families. Oh it may take hours. Weeks. Years. I want to know everything.
  • Joe D. Ross: And then they dance. A nice easy dance. It`s a nice easy song.
  • Joe D. Ross: We`re trying to tell a story with music, and song, and dance. Well, not just with words. For instance, if the boy tells the girl that he loves her, he just doesn`t say it, he sings it. Jane Falbury: Why doesn`t he just say it? Joe D. Ross: Why? Oh, I don`t know, but it`s kind of nice.
  • Jane Falbury: You really love this, don`t you? Joe D. Ross: What? Show business? There`s nothing else in the world.
    Trivia
  • "Fall in Love" (music by Harry Warren, lyrics by Mack Gordon), sung by Gloria DeHaven and Phil Silvers, was cut from this film. The duet is heard on the Rhino Handmade CD of the soundtrack, released together with the score of Judy Garland`s _In the Good Old Summertime (1949)_.
  • Judy Garland is said to have been at the height of her drug addiction throughout filming, resulting in her weight changes, mood-swings, and unexplained illnesses. It was due to this behavior that MGM fired her after filming completed.
  • This would be the last time that Gene Kelly and Judy Garland were paired together onscreen.
  • The number "Get Happy" was filmed several months after the rest of the film at which time Judy Garland was thinner than she was during the rest of the filming.
  • Judy Garland was supposed to make one more MGM musical, Royal Wedding (1951) with Fred Astaire, but was fired from that production, making this her MGM swansong.
  • One one particular day of fiming, Judy Garland was said to be "not in a fit state to work" so Gene Kelly feigned a fall so that she would be able to take the day off.
  • Judy Garland`s last film for MGM.
  • The number "Heavenly Music" was originally a trio with Gene Kelly, Phil Silvers and Judy Garland. Garland didn`t show up to work the day of shooting and they filmed the scene without her.
