Dorothy Jean Dandridge (November 9, 1922 – September 8, 1965) was an American actress, singer and dancer. She is the first African-American film star to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, which was for her performance in Carmen Jones (1954). Dandridge performed as a vocalist in venues such as the Cotton Club and the Apollo Theater. During her early career, she performed as a part of The Wonder Children, later The Dandridge Sisters, and appeared in a succession of films, usually in uncredited roles.

bonjour j`ai vue le film cette semaine sur M6 tres touchant,et tres intérressant, je ne comprend pas qu`une artiste noir tres connu et respecté de son public, devait passer par les coullisses, uriner dans un goblet, ne pas s`approcher de la piscine, resté dans sa chambre pour ne pas choquer les clients, et pourtant ils allaient l`applaudir après ces spectacles, je ne comprend pas cette réaction heureusement que tous a changer. Mais quelle fin trajique un peu comme marylin elles sont partie trop jeunes elles auraient continuer une belle carrière, en tout cas dorothy c`est battue pour se faire aimer et obtenir ce quelle voulait et je dit bravo. A bientot peut être cecile
