James Lee Duncan "Jamie" Carragher (born 28 January 1978) is an English footballer who plays as a central defender for Premier League side Liverpool. A one-club man, he has been Liverpool's vice-captain since 2003, and is one of the club's longest-serving players. He made his 700th appearance for Liverpool in all competitions on 2 August 2012, placing him second behind Ian Callaghan on the club's all-time appearance list. Carragher also holds the record for the most appearances in European competition for Liverpool with 150. On 7 February 2013, Carragher announced his intention to retire from football at the end of the 2012–13 season.
